Learn2Swim Week Launches

As the October School holidays begin across the country so does Learn2Swim Week. The annual awareness week aims to educate parents and carers about the importance of teaching under five year olds to swim and be safe in and around the water.

Released in Royal Life Saving’s National Drowning Report drowning deaths among children under five are down by 36% on the 10 year average, however swimming pools still account for 67% of all drowning deaths among children under five years of age. [1].

Laurie Lawrence, swimming legend, and founder of the program states “Our aim is to give every child in Australia and New Zealand aged under five the opportunity to learn to swim”. Teaching a child to swim and be safe in, on and around water is the best prevention.

The initiative is partnering with Poolwerx, CEO John O’Brien said the company was committed to promoting water safety awareness. “This Learn2Swim Week campaign is a collective effort and something we’re all passionate about. Our franchisees are committed to driving water safety education through our stores, service vans and as part of our community outreach.”
